Specialized Treatment

PTSD

I offer treatment specifically for Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD), a mental health condition resulting from experiencing or witnessing dangerous or terrifying events. Many people resolve their trauma within about a month of the experience. Those who are unable to cope or adjust within one to three months may be developing PTSD.

Symptoms will often worsen, rather than improve. These symptoms can include recurring distressing memories, hopelessness, self-destructive behavior, insomnia, and severe emotional distress triggered by any number of situations.

It’s important to seek professional help quickly to prevent symptoms from increasing in intensity, and causing further distress. The longer one experiences negative feelings associated with a traumatic event, the harder can be to develop effective coping skills. If you are feeling suicidal please call 911 and seek emergency help immediately.

Anxiety

If you’re experiencing abnormally intense fear and worry about everyday situations, you may be developing an Anxiety Disorder. It’s common to have stress in our lives, but when the level of response is disproportionate to the situation it’s worth talking to a professional counselor.

I specialize in diagnosing and treating several kinds of anxiety disorders, including generalized anxiety disorder, phobias, panic disorders, social anxiety, separation anxiety and other common disorders.

A professional counselor is needed to diagnose the specific type of anxiety disorder you may be experiencing so that the proper treatment can be applied. There are different therapies that can be useful when correct diagnosis is made. Some people try to diagnose themselves, and often spend time and money seeking treatments that are not appropriate. It’s more efficient and effective to work with a professional counselor to resolve anxiety issues.

Depression

Clinical Depression is a serious condition that can lead to feelings of hopelessness about life, decreased energy (fatigue), difficulty concentrating, and even thoughts of suicide. It’s important not to ignore persistent symptoms and speak with a professional counselor immediately.

Another of my specialties is helping people overcome depression and lead productive, healthy lives. It’s not a matter of “just getting over it.” The longer symptoms persist, the more important it is for you to seek professional counseling to avoid destructive spiraling downward into a concerning mental state.

There are solutions and it is possible to change how you feel. Having a professional diagnose and offer appropriate treatment for your depression is the most likely path to recovery. If you are feeling like you might hurt yourself or someone else please call 911 immediately and get yourself to a safe place.

“Personal Awareness and Understanding”

“Working with Matthew Jarvis brought personal awareness and understanding to the options and resources that support families that have a loved one that is challenged with the courage to change. As a family member that lost someone to an overdose, I have a better respect and understanding for the support and expertise that is needed and was found through his counseling. Don’t put off what can be saved today as tomorrow is not promised…A life is a terrible thing to waste.”
